Minister Cheryl Barr

Minister Cheryl Barr, Director of the Evangelism and Outreach Ministry, was born October 26, 1960 to the late George Willie and Mary Frances Hailstock Barr in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. 

​

One of thirteen children - four brothers and eight sisters, Cheryl was raised in the city of Woonsocket where she attended Woonsocket Senior High School.  She moved to South Carolina in 1979 to live with her late aunt Zolene Pitts of Crosshill, South Carolina.  There, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1981.


Cheryl Barr moved back to Rhode Island 1983 and became a member of Saint James Baptist Church in 1984. She attended the Community College of Rhode Island and received a Certificate of Completion in Education. Barr currently works as an Educator and Behavior Specialist for The Spurwink School. She also works at the Seven Hills Foundation as a Personal Assistance Support Staff to children.

Minister Cheryl Barr received her call to preach the Gospel in 2005 and, with the leadership of her former retired Pastor Reverend Dr. Sammy C. Vaughan, began her theological studies at Zion Bible College in Bristol Rhode Island.  In 2010 and when the College transitioned to North Point Bible Institute in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Barr continued her studies with North Point until 2017. She has now transitioned to Gordon Conwell Seminary School in Boston, Massachusetts.
 

Minister Barr was licensed in 2012 to preach the Gospel by Pastor Reverend Dr. Sammy C. Vaughan. She is the first licensed Minister and female to be licensed in the sixty-five year history of Saint James Baptist Church. 
 

Cheryl Barr is the proud mother of eight adopted children and a foster parent to many. To God be the Glory.
